Blythswood is an isolated area of perhaps fifteen hectares, to the west of Renfrew town centre. It is bounded to the south by a scrapyard and the river Clyde, to the West by Renfrew golf course, to the south by a bonded whisky warehouse and to the east by a disused railway embankment and a housing estate.
Originally it was part of the Blythswood House estate: farm, kitchen garden and kennels. The house was demolished in 1935 and by the middle of the last century some of the area had become allotments. Long fallen into magnificent disuse, there still are (if you look) a good number of fruit trees and bushes.
